It’s Me Again®
Breast Augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, involves using implants, either saline or silicone, to create fuller breasts or to restore breasts that may be perceived to be underdeveloped or have lost volume due to weight loss, changes after pregnancy or breast-feeding. Breast Augmentation can increase the fullness and projection of your breasts, improve the balance and proportions of your figure and improve your self-image and self-confidence.
The size and type of breast implant recommended for you will be determined by your goals for breast enhancement, your existing body frame, your existing breast tissue and your own personal preferences. There are a number of available methods to insert breast implants, and Dr. Ruthie will take you through each of these options to determine which one would be most appropriate for you, including the location of your incisions and whether the implants will be placed on top of or underneath the chest muscle.
Breast Augmentation alone does not correct severely drooping breasts. If you want your breasts to look fuller and to be lifted due to sagging, a Breast Lift may be required in combination with breast augmentation. Breast Lifting can often be done at the same time as your augmentation.
Is Breast Augmentation Right for You?
Breast Augmentation is a very personal procedure, and you should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone else’s desires or try to fit any sort of ideal image.
Breast augmentation may be an option for you if:
- you feel self-conscious about the size of your breasts
- your breasts vary in size or shape
- your clothes do not fit they way you would like them to
- your breasts have become smaller or lost firmness with age or life changes
- your breasts have changed as a result of weight loss or pregnancy
Dr. Ruthie will help you make the final decision on whether Breast Augmentation surgery is right for you, but in general, to consider the procedure, your breasts should be fully developed, and you should be physically healthy with realistic expectations.
Your Visit with Dr. Ruthie
During your consultation, Dr. Ruthie will examine your breasts, take measurements and discuss your goals for the outcome of the procedure. She will consider the unique attributes of your breasts to help you determine which procedure, implant type and incision site is right for you and which method of augmentation would provide you the best result for your desired size and shape. Dr. Ruthie will explain to you, in detail and with photographs, what the procedure will entail and what you can expect during recovery, as well as answer any questions or concerns you may have.
You should come to the consultation prepared to discuss your medical history, including information about any medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments you have received, previous surgeries, medications you currently take, family history of breast cancer and results of any mammograms or previous biopsies.
