It’s Me Again®
Blepharoplasty, commonly known as an Eyelid Lift, rejuvenates puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids.
Incisions are placed in the creases of the eyelids, an inconspicuous place. A very precise amount of excess tissue and fat will be removed through the incisions, followed by fine sutures to close the incisions. In some cases, no skin needs to be removed, and the incision is made inside the lower eyelid, producing no visible scars.
Blepharoplasty may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient’s field of vision and can be combined with Botox® treatments to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow’s feet or dark circles under the eyes.
Is an Eyelid Lift Right for You?
If you look tired despite being well rested, you may be one of the more than 100,000 men and women who undergo Blepharoplasty each year improve the way they look.
An Eyelid Lift may be an option for you if:
- you have excess skin obscuring the natural fold of the upper eyelids
- you have loose skin hanging from the upper eyelids, perhaps impairing vision
- your upper eyelids have a puffy appearance, making them look tired
- you have excess skin and fine, “crepe paper type” wrinkles of the lower eyelids
- you have lower eyelid droopiness or bags and dark circles under the eyes
Dr. Ruthie will help you make the final decision on whether an Eyelid Lift is right for you; however, the best candidates are men and women in good health, who are emotionally stable, have realistic expectation and good bone structure.
Your Visit with Dr. Ruthie
During your consultation, Dr. Ruthie will examine your eyelids, orbital bone structure, skin quality, muscle tone, orbital fat distribution and facial anatomy to determine if an Eyelid Lift is right for you and whether you require a full Eyelid Lift or just the upper or lower eyelids.
You should come to the consultation prepared to discuss your medical history, including information about any medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments you have received, previous surgeries and any medications you currently take. Men and women who lead unhealthy lifestyles are not good candidates for an Eyelid Lift. The risks and side effects of Eyelid Lift surgery are heightened in patients who smoke, have hypertension and/or have diabetes. If you have these health issues or smoke, you should discuss this with Dr. Ruthie.
