It’s Me Again®

Liposuction, also known as liposculpture or lipoplasty, is a procedure that can help sculpt and contour the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, love handles, buttocks, saddlebags, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck.

The basic technique of Liposuction involves the removal of fat via a hollow metal tube passed through the fatty tissue. Throughout the past decade, Liposuction techniques have become more refined and varied, resulting in more precise results and quicker recovery times. Dr. Ruthie will take you through these options to determine which one would be most appropriate for you.

Although no type of Liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don’t respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

Is Liposuction Right for You?

Women and men alike select Liposuction to help enhance their appearance and self confidence, but it’s important to have realistic expectations about what the procedure can do for you.

Liposuction may be an option for you if:

  • you have areas of fat deposits that do not go away with diet and exercise
  • you have areas of fat deposits out of proportion with the rest of your body
  • you have areas with minimal amounts of excess skin and good skin elasticity

Age is not a major consideration; however, older patients may have diminished skin elasticity and may not achieve the same results as a younger patient with tighter skin. Dr. Ruthie will help you make the final decision on whether liposuction is right for you; however, the best candidates are physically healthy, psychologically stable, normal-weight people with firm, elastic skin who have pockets of excess fat in certain areas and realistic expectations.

Your Visit with Dr. Ruthie

During your consultation, Dr. Ruthie will discuss with you the areas you would like to see improved and will evaluate the elasticity of your skin in those areas to understand your expectations and determine whether your goals can realistically be achieved. You also will discuss your ideal weight and realistic weight, as well as any future plans such as pregnancy.

You should come to the consultation prepared to discuss your medical history, including information about any medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments you have received, previous surgeries and any medications you currently take. High blood pressure, heart or lung disease, thyroid problems, diabetes or poor circulation should be reviewed as these medical conditions may increase some risks associated with surgery.
